Last week you talked about noticing the patterns in our life. What happens once we start to understand these patterns? What happens next?
Adrienne:The next step is reclaim, and reclaim isn't about self improvement. It's about self understanding, and it's about understanding ourselves enough by looking backwards in order to move forward with intention.
Bob Murray:What is the difference between self-understanding and self-improvement?
Adrienne:Well, self-improvement is about fixing. Self-understanding is just about looking backwards with curiosity and with compassion. It's understanding the patterns and the choices that we've made in the past, and how that impacts who we are and where we are today.
Bob Murray:So that's really what uncover and notice have been preparing us for.
Adrienne:Yes. So uncover is about discovering the why behind the choices we make, and notice is about understanding the patterns and reclaim is really about listening to that inner voice that's always been there, but just listening to it and trusting that it needs to be heard.
Bob Murray:So, how do people know when they're ready to reclaim themselves?
Adrienne:Well, reclaim begins as a whisper, and so it is that inner voice that's always been there. But it it happens at a point in time where life becomes a little quieter, and because of that, the voice becomes a lot louder. And so maybe the the kids no longer need us as much as they did, so they're not constantly demanding and expecting things from us. Maybe it's because our kids have grown up and left home, and so therefore we have more space to breathe and space to to listen.
Bob Murray:So what happens when life finally quietly slows down?
Adrienne:Well, that's when we have space to sort of ask ourselves: Is this all there is? And to really listen to that voice that may be saying, "What about me? And am I going to keep doing this over and over again, or is there something else that will feed my soul?
Bob Murray:So, what does that quiet voice sound like?
Adrienne:It's just a whisper. It's just a whisper until we have the the space to listen, and and then it becomes louder.
Bob Murray:Do you experience this quiet voice yourself?
Adrienne:I have experienced it. I remember when I was driving, and I was at the very top of a hill, and I had all four of my girls and my dog in the car. I received a call from a friend of mine, and I was telling her, and she knew all the way along that I was struggling in my relationship. And she said to me, "Aid, jump, and the net will appear. And in that moment, I said, "Okay, I'm jumping. I am going to leave my my marriage, and it really wasn't about leaving the marriage. It really was about reclaiming parts of me that had been lost underneath all the layers of responsibility and all the layers of expectations that had been placed on me for so long. And so, in that moment, I said to myself, I trust this inner voice, and I am going to move forward differently than I have before.
Bob Murray:So, what did you reclaim?
Adrienne:I reclaimed myself. I reclaimed my voice. I reclaimed trust in myself, and and it was through that that I was able to move forward. And I had no idea what the future was going to bring, but I also reclaimed my strength. I always knew I was strong, but through all the confusion, I had forgotten that.
Bob Murray:Why does reclaim take courage?
Adrienne:Reclaim takes courage because it's about letting go of expectations. It's about trusting ourselves and and moving forward with intention.
Bob Murray:What is the one thing you'd like people to reflect on this week?
Adrienne:I would like people to ask themselves, what is one thing in your life that has slipped away? So look back and ask yourself that question. It could be creativity or adventure, something that isn't present in your life, but it isn't gone, and something that you can, that is just waiting to be reclaimed.
Bob Murray:So, what happens next? The
Adrienne:next step is allow, which gives ourselves permission to actually act on that voice, and to which will then allow us to live in alignment and trusting ourselves, so we can move forward with intention because we are listening to our inner voice.
Bob Murray:What an exciting journey
Adrienne:It is!
