Why Delegating Tasks Isn't Enough to Grow Your Business

Have you hired talented people only to discover you're still doing their jobs alongside your own? What if the real obstacle to growing your business isn't your team, but your ability to let go of the decisions?

Laura Gisborne reveals why effective delegation requires more than simply handing off tasks. Drawing on 35 years of entrepreneurship, nine companies owned, and six successful exits, Laura explores the leadership shifts that allow talented people to take ownership, build confidence, and grow alongside your business. She shares why even great hires can struggle when expectations, standards, and decision-making authority aren't clearly communicated. More importantly, she challenges entrepreneurs to recognize when stepping in to rescue their teams may actually be holding everyone back.

Building a thriving business isn't about doing everything yourself or finding people who can read your mind. It's about creating the clarity, trust, and freedom that empower others to succeed while honoring the vision and values you've worked so hard to build. When you move from controlling every decision to developing capable leaders, you create space for greater impact, sustainable growth, and a business that can flourish beyond you.

What You’ll Hear:

  • The hidden challenges beneath stalled business growth reveal why adding more marketing strategies may not create the progress entrepreneurs are seeking.
  • A deeper look at business foundations challenges the tendency to fix what's visible without addressing what's supporting the entire business.
  • The relationship between proven business principles and modern innovation raises important questions about what truly creates sustainable growth.
  • As artificial intelligence continues to transform business, the importance of human vision, purposeful leadership, and meaningful contribution becomes even more significant.
  • Strengthening the core of a business opens a new perspective on creating lasting profitability, aligned expansion, and the freedom to serve at a greater level.

Intro:

Welcome to the Limitless Women podcast. Our mission is to

Intro:

help women business owners like you grow profitable businesses

Intro:

and actualize your opportunities to serve and give to yourself

Intro:

and others. Here's your host, the founder of Limitless Women,

Intro:

Laura Gisborne.

Laura Gisborne:

Have you hired help and you still feel like

Laura Gisborne:

you're doing their job and yours, or worse, have you hired

Laura Gisborne:

someone, thought that they were going to be great at what they

Laura Gisborne:

were hired for, and then the next thing you knew, it didn't

Laura Gisborne:

work out. So hired again, another great person. You found

Laura Gisborne:

the talent, and it didn't work out. These may be symptoms that

Laura Gisborne:

something else is going on. There's more to delegation than

Laura Gisborne:

delegating, right? There's something else that's happening

Laura Gisborne:

underneath, and that is that you haven't given up the decision,

Laura Gisborne:

and you haven't slowed down to let people know what they need

Laura Gisborne:

to do and how. Okay, all too often we're hiring people. We're

Laura Gisborne:

really excited about crafting the role, the responsibilities,

Laura Gisborne:

the requirements. This is what I need, but what we don't do is we

Laura Gisborne:

don't slow down and really look at what are the conditions for

Laura Gisborne:

satisfaction? What is it that's going to have this person do a

Laura Gisborne:

great job, feel good about what they're doing, and get great

Laura Gisborne:

results for my company? And what are the standards? This is where

Laura Gisborne:

I get in trouble often. What are the standards that are going to

Laura Gisborne:

really have the delivery of this service be in alignment with the

Laura Gisborne:

brand that I've built, right? You, like me, probably built a

Laura Gisborne:

company that you really care about. You want it to be done a

Laura Gisborne:

certain way, but if you don't communicate with your team

Laura Gisborne:

members, how are they going to know that, right? We have to

Laura Gisborne:

build a team in order to grow our business. We become a party

Laura Gisborne:

of one, and we become our own worst enemy if we jump in to

Laura Gisborne:

rescue them, if you're a mama or you've seen little kids, you

Laura Gisborne:

know what I'm talking about. If you have a baby and you carry it

Laura Gisborne:

around with you for the rest of your life, realistically, that

Laura Gisborne:

would not become doable, right? But if you carry your baby when

Laura Gisborne:

they're one, it seems like it makes sense. When they're two,

Laura Gisborne:

they're getting kind of big. 345, it's not working, right?

Laura Gisborne:

You have to let your employees walk, whether they're

Laura Gisborne:

independent contractors or they're w2 employees. Either

Laura Gisborne:

way, they have to build the muscles that they need in order

Laura Gisborne:

for them to support you in growing the company. So, if

Laura Gisborne:

you're finding that you're having any of these symptoms, I

Laura Gisborne:

encourage you to reach out to me, and I'm so happy to jump on

Laura Gisborne:

a quick call with you and share with you some resources. After

Laura Gisborne:

35 years of entrepreneurship, I've owned nine companies. I've

Laura Gisborne:

sold six of them. That doesn't make me some genie in a bottle.

Laura Gisborne:

What I'm going to tell you is that I was only able to sell my

Laura Gisborne:

companies by building rock star teams. I've got a whole bunch of

Laura Gisborne:

training on how to hire, when to hire, how to train people, and

Laura Gisborne:

how to know if it's not going to work out. How to let them go

Laura Gisborne:

gracefully so that you can keep growing and they can grow in a

Laura Gisborne:

way that's good for them. My name is Laura Gisborne. Reach

Laura Gisborne:

out to me. It's schedulemycall dot today. We'll put the link in

Laura Gisborne:

here for you. Let me know where you're at and how you'd like to

Laura Gisborne:

connect. And let's get on a call. Let's figure out where you

Laura Gisborne:

might be in your own way. Let me teach you the difference between

Laura Gisborne:

delegating and giving up the decision-making process so that

Laura Gisborne:

your team members can grow and they can help you grow your

Laura Gisborne:

business.
