How Women Entrepreneurs Can Save 10+ Hours per Week (Get Rid of Your To-Do List)

Feeling buried by a never-ending to-do list can make even meaningful work feel heavy. In this solo episode, Laura shares a different way for women entrepreneurs to structure their time one that creates more focus, completion, and space for what matters most.

Rather than allowing tasks and other people’s requests to dictate the day, Laura explains why she builds her life first and lets business activities fit into an intentional calendar. She explores how gratitude, personal well being, financial awareness, and mission-focused priorities create a stronger foundation for productive work. The deeper shift is from reacting to everything that needs attention to consciously deciding where your energy belongs. When your calendar reflects your values and priorities, productivity becomes less about doing more and more about giving the right things a meaningful place.

Consider what would change if your time became a structure of support for the life, business, and contribution you are here to create.

What You’ll Hear:

  • Why the traditional to-do list can create an ongoing feeling of incompletion, even after a productive day.
  • The shift from reacting to tasks toward intentionally deciding where commitments belong within your time.
  • How beginning with personal wellbeing, gratitude, and what matters most can change the energy brought into the business.
  • Why staying connected to business numbers can create greater clarity around where attention is truly needed.
  • A more nourishing approach to productivity that allows business growth, personal priorities, and meaningful contribution to coexist.

Intro:

Welcome to the Limitless Women Podcast. Our mission is to

Intro:

help women business owners like you grow profitable businesses

Intro:

and actualize your opportunities to serve and give to yourself

Intro:

and others. Here's your host, the founder of Limitless Women,

Intro:

Laura Gisborne.

Laura Gisborne:

In today's episode, what I'd like to share

Laura Gisborne:

with you is something that we do at Limitless Women that's a

Laura Gisborne:

little edgy for a lot of women, and that is that we believe that

Laura Gisborne:

to-do lists are the bane of your existence. When you live with a

Laura Gisborne:

to-do list, what's happening is you're never complete. You're

Laura Gisborne:

always having more to do. You'll think of something else and

Laura Gisborne:

write it down, and then you'll think of something else and

Laura Gisborne:

write it down. So at the end of the day, you're looking at this

Laura Gisborne:

list and what's happening is you just feel sad, you just feel

Laura Gisborne:

burnt, you feel like there's more to do, no matter how much

Laura Gisborne:

you work. If you can relate to what I'm sharing with you, I

Laura Gisborne:

have a little trick for you that I think might be helpful. What I

Laura Gisborne:

want you to do is instead of giving yourself a list of things

Laura Gisborne:

to do, I want you to think about where can something fit in your

Laura Gisborne:

calendar?

Laura Gisborne:

Now, I can tell you that after 35 years of entrepreneurship and

Laura Gisborne:

nine different companies, I've made a lot of mistakes, but one

Laura Gisborne:

of the things that I've really learned that's helped me stay

Laura Gisborne:

focused, on track, to get things done in a timely manner is that

Laura Gisborne:

I threw away my to-do list. What I do instead is I look when

Laura Gisborne:

somebody comes to me and says, Hey, can you do this for me? I

Laura Gisborne:

look at my calendar. I look and see where is there availability,

Laura Gisborne:

if there's availability. Sometimes my answer is, I can do

Laura Gisborne:

this for you in two weeks from now. They're not always happy to

Laura Gisborne:

hear that, but if it's something that's really time sensitive, we

Laura Gisborne:

usually rally around and find another way to get it done. What

Laura Gisborne:

I want you to know is that I want you to build your day

Laura Gisborne:

around yourself first. When you wake up in the morning, what's

Laura Gisborne:

important to you? The first appointment on my calendar is

Laura Gisborne:

God every morning. What's my conversation with God? Where

Laura Gisborne:

have I touched base in what's important to me? Where's my

Laura Gisborne:

gratitude practice?

Laura Gisborne:

Before my feet hit the ground, I want to make sure that I'm

Laura Gisborne:

really focused on having this day be a day where I'm in

Laura Gisborne:

gratitude and focused on what really matters, and I pray to be

Laura Gisborne:

shown what are the three things that I need to do today to move

Laura Gisborne:

this business and my mission closer to the destiny that you

Laura Gisborne:

have for me. Now that's my conversation with God. You might

Laura Gisborne:

have a different one in your practice, but what I will tell

Laura Gisborne:

you is that when you focus in and ask to be shown what's

Laura Gisborne:

important first, you're going to see a whole different energy

Laura Gisborne:

when your feet hits the ground. The next thing that I do before

Laura Gisborne:

I do anything else is I go through what I call my circle of

Laura Gisborne:

life. I look at the different things in my life that I'm

Laura Gisborne:

grateful for, starting with my health, really honoring the

Laura Gisborne:

family that I've been blessed to build and that I've been gifted

Laura Gisborne:

with. Then we look at our abundance, we look at our

Laura Gisborne:

mission, we look at the different things that are

Laura Gisborne:

important to me each day. At least I say we, it's me and God.

Laura Gisborne:

In your world it'll be you and your divine, whatever feels

Laura Gisborne:

right for you. But starting in that place of all the

Laura Gisborne:

celebrations of what's going right in the world puts you in a

Laura Gisborne:

very different position when you do actually hit your office. So,

Laura Gisborne:

my next practice is to exercise, take care of myself, and then

Laura Gisborne:

look at my numbers. Before I talk to somebody else, meaning

Laura Gisborne:

somebody from the outside besides the Lord, I'm listening

Laura Gisborne:

to what are my numbers showing me today. Not right or wrong,

Laura Gisborne:

but where do I need to focus? Ladies, when you start focusing

Laura Gisborne:

on your numbers, you'll start to see what they tell you. So many

Laura Gisborne:

women I meet have a money story. Now, each year we host a retreat

Laura Gisborne:

called the FLOW Retreat. Some years we get lucky and host it a

Laura Gisborne:

couple of times a year. So, if money is a place where you'd

Laura Gisborne:

like a little extra love and support, please check out our

Laura Gisborne:

upcoming FLOW Retreat.

Laura Gisborne:

It's where we really focus on finance, we focus on the things

Laura Gisborne:

in your business that help your money grow. What do you need to

Laura Gisborne:

know about marketing? What do you need to know about sales?

Laura Gisborne:

And then when you're tracking, how do you learn to fall in love

Laura Gisborne:

with your numbers? How do you wake up each day excited to see

Laura Gisborne:

what's happening? All right, so that's just a little commercial

Laura Gisborne:

for the FLOW Retreat. I wanted to throw that in for you in case

Laura Gisborne:

that's an area that you'd like some extra love and support in.

Laura Gisborne:

Now back to the calendar. Here's what happens next. After I've

Laura Gisborne:

had my conversation with God, after I've done my gratitude

Laura Gisborne:

practice, after I've taken care of my body, after I've nourished

Laura Gisborne:

myself, after I've really looked at my numbers to ask: What needs

Laura Gisborne:

my attention today?

Laura Gisborne:

Then and only then does my calendar open up for other

Laura Gisborne:

things that have to do with business, right? So I have a

Laura Gisborne:

structure where I make myself available three days a week,

Laura Gisborne:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday right now between 1:00 and 5:00.

Laura Gisborne:

That calendar is open to my clients, to my prospects, to my

Laura Gisborne:

invitations for shows. It's really simple, but we use an

Laura Gisborne:

electronic calendar that's related to our Google Calendar.

Laura Gisborne:

It helps us stay on track, and that's the only time during

Laura Gisborne:

those blocks that I'm available for that type of work, right,

Laura Gisborne:

speaking, speaking like I'm doing with you right now.

Laura Gisborne:

Mondays for us are a couple of things. We have Money Matters

Laura Gisborne:

Mondays, imagine that, right? We want to really focus on our own

Laura Gisborne:

business's money, and we want to support our partners and our

Laura Gisborne:

clients with what they need to focus on to help grow their

Laura Gisborne:

revenue in the week. It's when I have a team meeting, but then

Laura Gisborne:

the rest of that day is really dedicated to business

Laura Gisborne:

development. Where are the things that I need to focus on?

Laura Gisborne:

Now, here's why I'm telling you this. When something comes in

Laura Gisborne:

and somebody says, Hey, this is something that you could do to

Laura Gisborne:

really help you grow your business. I see an idea. I get a

Laura Gisborne:

concept, where am I going to put it in my calendar?

Laura Gisborne:

Because Mondays I'm not available to the public. I'm

Laura Gisborne:

available to stay focused on my business development. That's

Laura Gisborne:

going to be where business development activities are going

Laura Gisborne:

to go in, right? They're going to go in on Mondays, and I'm

Laura Gisborne:

going to look for a slot on a Monday where it makes sense. Is

Laura Gisborne:

this helpful? So I want you to think about you owning your

Laura Gisborne:

calendar. Instead of you being at the mercy of all the things

Laura Gisborne:

there are to do, how do you structure your day? How do you

Laura Gisborne:

structure your time? And I want you to build your life around

Laura Gisborne:

doing this in a way that is sustaining for you and

Laura Gisborne:

nourishing for you. When you start with your own personal

Laura Gisborne:

life first, and then you plug in your business activities after

Laura Gisborne:

you've taken care of yourself, after you've made your

Laura Gisborne:

commitment to your gratitude practice, after you've done your

Laura Gisborne:

exercise, you'll be amazed at how much you can get done in a

Laura Gisborne:

short period of time. So the moral of the story today is give

Laura Gisborne:

it a try.

Laura Gisborne:

I always say, if I'm full of poop, your old life is waiting,

Laura Gisborne:

you're welcome to go back to what you know. But you might see

Laura Gisborne:

that letting go of your to-do list and instead using your

Laura Gisborne:

calendar as a structure of support for you can really be

Laura Gisborne:

helpful. I'm Laura Gisborne. Thanks for listening in. If I

Laura Gisborne:

can be of service to you, please reach out to me at

Laura Gisborne:

limitlesswomen.com, and I'll look forward to seeing you again

Laura Gisborne:

soon.
