How to Trust Yourself Through Every Level of Entrepreneurship | Marley Majcher

What if the confidence to build what’s next doesn’t come before the leap—but because you were willing to take it? Laura sits down with seasoned entrepreneur Marley Majcher, founder of The Party Goddess! and creator of Say Yes to Sheep, for a candid conversation about trusting your own knowing, thinking critically, and staying in motion through every season of business.

Marley shares how decades of entrepreneurship, financial mistakes, reinvention, and resilience shaped the confidence she carries today. Together, she and Laura explore why meaningful growth requires more than following what everyone else is doing—it asks women to discern what truly aligns with their values, goals, and contribution. Marley’s unexpected journey from hospitality and celebrity events to an innovative fire-safety product made from waste wool reveals what becomes possible when curiosity meets resourcefulness and purpose. The conversation also brings profit back into its rightful place: not as the sole measure of success, but as an essential foundation for creating sustainable impact. This episode is an invitation to trust what you know, take the next courageous action, and remember that every challenge can expand your capacity for what comes next.

What You’ll Hear:

  • Why confidence is often built through the experience of taking courageous action, navigating uncertainty, and discovering what can no longer be taken away from you.
  • The role critical thinking plays in a noisy world—and what changes when entrepreneurs stop automatically following the current and begin trusting their own discernment.
  • How business setbacks, financial lessons, and seasons of reinvention can become unexpected training grounds for greater resilience and self-trust.
  • What becomes possible when curiosity and observation create space for an entirely new opportunity to emerge, even when it looks nothing like the path that came before it.
  • The deeper relationship between profit, purpose, and contribution—and why knowing the true economics of a business matters for women who want their impact to last.

Intro:

Laura Gisborne.

Laura Gisborne:

All right, my friends. Welcome back to the

Laura Gisborne:

Limitless Women podcast. Today, I'm really excited to introduce

Laura Gisborne:

you to a friend of mine that we were trying to figure out our

Laura Gisborne:

origin story. We were introduced by a mutual friend many, many

Laura Gisborne:

years ago when we were just getting started. And I think

Laura Gisborne:

it's before Limitless Women was even Limitless Women. I think it

Laura Gisborne:

was when we were in the Powered with Passion, Passion, Purpose,

Laura Gisborne:

Profits, really trying to figure out what this calling was that's

Laura Gisborne:

grown into this work today. Marley Majcher is, like myself,

Laura Gisborne:

a very seasoned entrepreneur. She's been in multiple

Laura Gisborne:

businesses, and she has a new invention and creation that I

Laura Gisborne:

just am really excited for you to learn about. She's an

Laura Gisborne:

innovator, she's very, very funny, and really engaging, and

Laura Gisborne:

and and really a terrific girlfriend. So welcome to the

Laura Gisborne:

show, Marley. I'm so happy to see you.

Marley Majcher:

Thank you. I'm so glad to be here, and I was I

Marley Majcher:

was thinking to myself when you say I'm a you know seasoned

Marley Majcher:

entrepreneur, et cetera, I was thinking, is the translation to

Marley Majcher:

everybody who's listening like a lot of wrinkles or not a lot of

Marley Majcher:

wrinkles because of a lot of Botox? So I am in the latter

Marley Majcher:

category anyway. You're looking gorgeous. Oh, thank you. Well,

Marley Majcher:

I'm so glad to be on here, and I'm so glad to be talking to

Marley Majcher:

your audience. This is going to be great.

Laura Gisborne:

Thank you so much, darling. So it sounds like

Laura Gisborne:

you have your roots in a family business, right? Kind of like

Laura Gisborne:

with your dad, and that there's that story, and then there is

Laura Gisborne:

The Party Goddess!. I mean, there's all going on in the

Laura Gisborne:

world, and in Hollywood, and celebrities, and so, you know, I

Laura Gisborne:

would say, as I was sharing with you before we started this this

Laura Gisborne:

recording, the women who are listening are, you know, they're

Laura Gisborne:

doing they're doing it, right? They're raising families.

Laura Gisborne:

They're doing the do. You've been there, done that, as have

Laura Gisborne:

I, and it can feel like a slog, and I feel like every time that

Laura Gisborne:

I've been blessed to connect with you, whether it is you know

Laura Gisborne:

through a text or call or whatever, or we get to be

Laura Gisborne:

together in person, you always light up the room with just this

Laura Gisborne:

incredible energy. Which I'm pretty you know I mean again

Laura Gisborne:

you've been through some through, my love, and so, you

Laura Gisborne:

know, I'd love to hear kind of like how your entrepreneurial

Laura Gisborne:

journey started and what's led you to the current offer that

Laura Gisborne:

you've created, really to help with fire safety, that's really

Laura Gisborne:

going to impact the world.

Marley Majcher:

Yeah, it is it is about as random as it gets.

Marley Majcher:

So, I to keep the story short, I am from Pasadena, California,

Marley Majcher:

where I where I currently live, and I got my business degree

Marley Majcher:

from Georgetown. But before my junior year in college, I was

Marley Majcher:

like at a summer. I didn't know what I was going to do. Nothing

Marley Majcher:

was really exciting me, and so I decided I would go to cooking

Marley Majcher:

school in France and spend the summer with a tutor, etc., just

Marley Majcher:

like whatever, you know. So off I went, and then I came back,

Marley Majcher:

and for one of my business classes, I needed to do a speech

Marley Majcher:

on what I knew more about than anybody else. Well, at

Marley Majcher:

Georgetown, that was absolutely nothing because it was a miracle

Marley Majcher:

I had been accepted into the university. So, and my mom was

Marley Majcher:

like, Why don't you do it on French cooking? Like, there's no

Marley Majcher:

way they these kids know more about cooking than you do. So, I

Marley Majcher:

was like, Okay. So, on my way to, because in those days you

Marley Majcher:

got your film developed, I went and I ran into my professor when

Marley Majcher:

I went to get my film developed from the summer, and and I told

Marley Majcher:

her, I was like, Oh my gosh, I love your class, and I'm doing

Marley Majcher:

my my speech on, you know, French cooking, and I have a an

Marley Majcher:

interview with the chef from 1789. Well, Georgetown is a very

Marley Majcher:

small place, and 1789 is a very famous fancy restaurant, which I

Marley Majcher:

had never thought of interviewing the chef from 1789,

Marley Majcher:

but that came out of my mouth. And anyway, she was like, That's

Marley Majcher:

my favorite place. I went home to my roommates and was in tears

Marley Majcher:

because I'd lied. I said I need an interview with him. I got

Marley Majcher:

one, decided I needed to marry him. I was 19. What? What? And,

Marley Majcher:

yeah, that's the reason I'm telling you the story. So, I was

Marley Majcher:

19, he was 20 years older than I was, and I was like, I'm just a

Marley Majcher:

junior, I've never even had a boyfriend, so how am I going to

Marley Majcher:

marry this guy? And I Wow. convinced him to get a job

Marley Majcher:

there, worked there the whole year, then plotted the following

Marley Majcher:

summer how I was going to ruin his life because I was now his

Marley Majcher:

best employee. So, right before senior year, I said, Hey,

Marley Majcher:

listen, I'm quitting. I've got to focus on my studies. He asked

Marley Majcher:

me out, and we got engaged the month after graduation. So, what

Marley Majcher:

do you do? You go into the restaurant business. So, I

Marley Majcher:

graduated at 21, we built this restaurant, I, you know, we both

Marley Majcher:

went back to Pasadena, my hometown, and I was in the

Marley Majcher:

restaurant business. We started a catering company and and took

Marley Majcher:

over a venue, and, you know, working 24 hours a day. But he

Marley Majcher:

was, obviously, an amazing chef, and I was in charge of the back

Marley Majcher:

of the house or front of the house, however you want to call

Marley Majcher:

it. And my whole goal was, I'm going to do a million dollars in

Marley Majcher:

sales. And as we were talking before, you know, this is before

Marley Majcher:

the internet, before the, I mean, we barely had to get a

Marley Majcher:

Exactly, or cell phones. And so I did a million dollars in

Marley Majcher:

sales. My first year, that was great, at 22, but what I didn't

Marley Majcher:

really connect the dots with was that you need to do, you can't

Marley Majcher:

do like 1 point, you can't do a million dollars in sales and

Marley Majcher:

then spend 1.1, you know? But, I didn't Big fat. So, that was

Marley Majcher:

even though I had a business degree, I still had a very

Marley Majcher:

difficult time applying those lessons to my own company. And,

Marley Majcher:

so then I don't know what your listeners are going to say, but

Marley Majcher:

to me when you're married, you're working 24 hours a day,

Marley Majcher:

you're having financial trouble, the only answer is to get

Marley Majcher:

pregnant, which I did. And, so now we have the new baby in

Marley Majcher:

front of the cappuccino machine, and

Laura Gisborne:

Right. Oh, my goodness!

Marley Majcher:

Anyway, he and I split. I am now with a

Marley Majcher:

1-year-old, etc., start, you know, my parents were like,

Marley Majcher:

Well, what, you know, what are you going to do? That's when I

Marley Majcher:

was at the probably lowest point in my life, and I started The

Marley Majcher:

Party Goddess!, and that was in 2000, and it was like, How What

Marley Majcher:

possible name can I come up with that is the antithesis of where

Marley Majcher:

I feel right now? Like which is like under the dirt. Awesome.

Marley Majcher:

And, I was like, I'm In this going to come up with this name.

Marley Majcher:

And and sure enough, the first time I went to an industry

Marley Majcher:

event, they laughed when I introduced myself.

Intro:

Sure. But,

Marley Majcher:

I was like, I will clean your clock one day.

Marley Majcher:

And, I did.

Laura Gisborne:

You'll you'll you'll see. Yeah. You'll see.

Laura Gisborne:

They'll show them.

Marley Majcher:

And then, but my so my big thing was I I realized

Marley Majcher:

that if I was going to be an event planner in a very

Marley Majcher:

saturated market like Los Angeles or New York, I needed to

Marley Majcher:

differentiate myself, and so I decided to go after celebrity

Marley Majcher:

clients. And, that is what really Wow. put me on the map

Marley Majcher:

was our the the celebrity clients, because it was like,

Marley Majcher:

Oh, you do celebrity events, so you must know what you're doing.

Marley Majcher:

And, you know, we can all talk about how ridiculous that is,

Marley Majcher:

but that's how the world works. And, Well, and you know the

Laura Gisborne:

implied, the power of implied endorsement?

Laura Gisborne:

Yes. 26 years ago. I mean, I think that's the part like

Laura Gisborne:

nowadays, like now we have Instagram and now we have

Laura Gisborne:

influencers and we have blah, blah, blah, but you were ahead

Laura Gisborne:

of your time there. It's one of the things I really love about

Laura Gisborne:

you, and I I've just as I'm hearing the story, I'm thinking

Laura Gisborne:

about all the all the the synchronicities of you know, I I

Laura Gisborne:

don't know if you know that my first three businesses were

Laura Gisborne:

restaurants. I married into a family business. My first

Laura Gisborne:

husband went to culinary school, was a chef. It's really he's

Marley Majcher:

a great

Laura Gisborne:

guy, Oh, Father of my biological child

Laura Gisborne:

biological father of my children. No longer married. You

Laura Gisborne:

know, it just like I'm like, oh, we just need one more thing in

Laura Gisborne:

common, my friend. So it's good to have you with us. And so

Laura Gisborne:

fast-forward, the the part that I wanted to put a pin in here,

Laura Gisborne:

Marley, is to remind people who are listening to this that again

Laura Gisborne:

26 years ago, I'm pretty sure there was no Instagram. There

Laura Gisborne:

was no such thing as an influencer, but you had, you

Laura Gisborne:

know, the wherewithal and the the knowing to really tap into

Laura Gisborne:

that as a way to move you from being laughed at as the Party

Laura Gisborne:

Goddess to, Hey, she's the one, and how do we get with her?

Marley Majcher:

Right. Exactly, because I what I what I, you

Marley Majcher:

know, I just I'm always been an observer, right? And I

Marley Majcher:

fortunately, I had I grew up in a in a in a nice environment,

Marley Majcher:

and I had wealthy friends. And I would kind of step back and I'd

Marley Majcher:

be like, My god, it's spring break. You know, you're all

Marley Majcher:

sunning in Palm Springs or Palm Desert, and everybody has the

Marley Majcher:

magazines out, cause you had paper magazines in those days.

Laura Gisborne:

And

Marley Majcher:

there it's like, Oh, this celebrity's wearing

Marley Majcher:

these jeans. This celebrity. And I'm like, What what do you guys

Marley Majcher:

care? You could You could out-pay, you know, you guys have

Marley Majcher:

more money than these celebrities nine times over. But

Marley Majcher:

that's who they were paying attention to. So I just thought,

Marley Majcher:

Well, I can either just keep slogging away, you know, like

Marley Majcher:

the what's that that analogy of the the when the tree falls in

Marley Majcher:

the forest and nobody hears it, like did it really fall? Or do I

Marley Majcher:

just like go play the game? And as soon as I started playing the

Marley Majcher:

game, then it was it it it really changed. And so I think

Marley Majcher:

for people listening today the answer is is step back for a

Marley Majcher:

minute and observe who why are people making the decisions in

Marley Majcher:

business that they're making. Like why are they purchasing the

Marley Majcher:

products they're purchasing? You know, is it because of an

Marley Majcher:

endorsement, a third-party endorsement? We know

Marley Majcher:

testimonials and all that stuff work. Or is it because it's an

Marley Majcher:

impact? Is it because of the backstory? Is it because of the

Marley Majcher:

founder's story? Is it a combination of them? But there

Marley Majcher:

are all these little things that that influence why people make

Marley Majcher:

decisions. And so, no matter maybe somebody's going to listen

Marley Majcher:

to this 10 years from now, figure out what What's the

Marley Majcher:

deeper why, and what's what's moving what's really moving the

Marley Majcher:

needle. Not what the news tells you is moving the needle, not

Marley Majcher:

what the analytics tell you. What do you see is moving the

Marley Majcher:

needle?

Laura Gisborne:

Well, and I think that that Not only does

Laura Gisborne:

that take discernment, but it's also such a noisy world, right?

Laura Gisborne:

So the whole idea of social media is so noisy, and there's

Laura Gisborne:

still what I would call earned media, right? There's still

Laura Gisborne:

authentic channels that have millions and millions of

Laura Gisborne:

viewers, and there's a credibility and an authenticity

Laura Gisborne:

there, right? So being able to tie into the story and be able

Laura Gisborne:

to get the attention of news channels that are doing business

Laura Gisborne:

a little differently than where everybody else You know, there's

Laura Gisborne:

there's another thing, too, and say this often in investing,

Laura Gisborne:

too, is like when you see everybody going there, you want

Laura Gisborne:

to go the other direction, right? I mean, this really's

Laura Gisborne:

been our been our way in real estate for many, many years.

Laura Gisborne:

Yeah.

Marley Majcher:

I think I think that one of the key points,

Marley Majcher:

whether it's this conversation or any conversation, is to be a

Marley Majcher:

critical thinker and to stand on your own two feet and say, Wait

Marley Majcher:

a minute! And by the way, maybe maybe, you know, this brand is

Marley Majcher:

the best brand and everybody's heading to it. Okay, but like

Marley Majcher:

stand and actually evaluate that and be like, Is that the case?

Marley Majcher:

Because we these days it is getting easier and easier to be

Marley Majcher:

swayed, and the environment is getting noisier and noisier, and

Marley Majcher:

and so many times now we're kind of caught going, Wait, how'd I

Marley Majcher:

get here? And it was just because the current you know,

Marley Majcher:

took us that direction. So I think that critical thinking

Marley Majcher:

component is, hey, does this really align with my values and

Marley Majcher:

my goals, and you know, as much as you possibly can, the brands

Marley Majcher:

and and companies you do business with.

Laura Gisborne:

Well, and I think there's another thing that

Laura Gisborne:

I'm hearing from you that I think is really important to

Laura Gisborne:

bring forward for women, and that is the confidence to trust

Laura Gisborne:

your own knowing and your own guidance, right? Versus what are

Laura Gisborne:

you what's playing the comparison game, right? Or this

Laura Gisborne:

person's doing this or this looks like that or she's got

Laura Gisborne:

40,000 things here, you know, and like you don't really know

Laura Gisborne:

what's going on behind the scenes with people. None of us

Laura Gisborne:

do. And that goes back to what you said about, you know, can

Laura Gisborne:

you make a million dollars, but did you spend a million and one

Laura Gisborne:

to make it? Which Todd and I joke about that for many years.

Laura Gisborne:

Like the IRS must think we're really bad at business. He said

Laura Gisborne:

Right. But there's But there's learning your numbers, right?

Laura Gisborne:

Like learning your margins, and that's a whole nother

Laura Gisborne:

conversation. And when you know, and when you pay attention, it's

Laura Gisborne:

the beginning of those like inklings of confidence, right?

Laura Gisborne:

So, you have tremendous You just have such a great presence. What

Laura Gisborne:

Were you raised in an environment where you were like

Laura Gisborne:

nurtured to be so confident? I mean, I was raised to be seen

Laura Gisborne:

and not heard, so it was a very different for me to get in front

Laura Gisborne:

of a camera. I'm very curious about how, you know, were you

Laura Gisborne:

born this way, darling? Is it nature Well,

Marley Majcher:

okay. It's It's that's an interesting question

Marley Majcher:

because I was I would say my mom raised me to, you know, you have

Marley Majcher:

good manners, and you, you know, get educated, and you have

Marley Majcher:

children, and you have a nice family, et cetera, et cetera.

Marley Majcher:

And my dad was, you know, kind of or is kind of more of a, you

Marley Majcher:

know, chauvinist. But then to have a loud loud mouth of a

Marley Majcher:

daughter like me, he kind of started getting his clock

Marley Majcher:

cleaned because I was like, you know, my mom is like, Well, of

Marley Majcher:

course, you're going to go off and get married. And I I

Marley Majcher:

remember being like 6 years old saying to myself like, How am I

Marley Majcher:

not going to work? Like all I've ever wanted to do was work, and

Marley Majcher:

I remember just thinking really being troubled by that, right?

Marley Majcher:

And then my dad But But then on the other side, my dad would

Marley Majcher:

say, Well, go off and try that. Well, why What's the Try it.

Marley Majcher:

Read the book. We had a thing when we were when we were kids,

Marley Majcher:

my dad would say like, you know, the the book fair or whatever

Marley Majcher:

would come to school, and my dad would say, You guys can buy any

Marley Majcher:

book you want as long as you'll read it. And so, I was the kid

Marley Majcher:

at the book fair got millions and millions. Everybody

Laura Gisborne:

was like, What are you doing? not read enough.

Laura Gisborne:

Yeah.

Marley Majcher:

I could because he said, Listen, as long as

Marley Majcher:

you're interested, go do it. Same thing with real estate.

Marley Majcher:

It's like he'd say, We need a new medical office in this

Marley Majcher:

place. Go find. And I was like, Well, I don't How am I going to

Marley Majcher:

find it? He's like, Do it like we used to do. You knock on the

Marley Majcher:

door, and you say, Do you know anybody who's going to sell

Marley Majcher:

their property? And

Intro:

so, it

Marley Majcher:

was very much that whole trying kind of thing.

Marley Majcher:

But there's a big but here is what what I don't think we get

Marley Majcher:

prepared for is with all that trying, you we need to be

Marley Majcher:

forewarned that there is going to be a lot of failing and a lot

Marley Majcher:

of failing, especially when you're so confident that you

Marley Majcher:

often don't have a net underneath you, you break some

Marley Majcher:

bones, you know, and not all of them go back in in the places

Marley Majcher:

they're supposed to go. And so, I think that's why today I am

Marley Majcher:

confident is because I've been at the bottom of the barrel.

Marley Majcher:

I've been at the bottom of many barrels. I've been in the

Marley Majcher:

barrels buried under the earth and the river, you know, and I

Marley Majcher:

know I can still find my way out Houdini style somehow. So I

Marley Majcher:

think that's where you know, that's where confidence comes

Marley Majcher:

from when you genuinely know in your gut. You're like, Fine. you

Marley Majcher:

know, Throw me the hurricane, but you know, see me in 30 days.

Marley Majcher:

I'll be out of it.

Laura Gisborne:

Well, and I think Let me see if I can get

Laura Gisborne:

this right, because you just asked me about eWomen and like

Laura Gisborne:

Kim and Sandra Yancey, who are the co-founders of eWomen, have

Laura Gisborne:

been great friends, really good mentors of mine, just role

Laura Gisborne:

models, amazing people. But Sandra says, Courage is a Hold

Laura Gisborne:

on, I got it backwards. Confidence is a consequence of

Laura Gisborne:

courage. It takes me a minute to get that in my brain, but when I

Laura Gisborne:

get it, I can see it, and I can see that like the confidence

Laura Gisborne:

happens as a result of you having the courage to take the

Laura Gisborne:

actions, then you get there, right? And And I think that

Laura Gisborne:

that's the piece It's It's one thing as I'm recording this with

Laura Gisborne:

you, and I'm turning 60 tomorrow, and I had nine

Laura Gisborne:

companies, and all these exits, and been married and divorced

Laura Gisborne:

and remarried, and I'm still standing. You know, it's like

Laura Gisborne:

It's easy to go back and say, Oh yeah, I can do these things cuz

Laura Gisborne:

I've done them. But when you're young and you're doing it, it's

Laura Gisborne:

not easy. Oh no,

Marley Majcher:

well by the way, it's not I'm going to push back.

Marley Majcher:

It's not even easy right at this at this minute. You know what I

Marley Majcher:

mean? I mean, Yeah, cuz you're you're in a

Laura Gisborne:

new business. it's

Marley Majcher:

I'm in a new business, I'm You know, you got

Marley Majcher:

all kinds of new things and and Yeah. Let's face it, the the

Marley Majcher:

more you level up, the more complicated your problems

Marley Majcher:

become, the more You know, all because you're ready for it, and

Marley Majcher:

that's what tests you. But if you're If you are somebody like

Marley Majcher:

me who's all I've ever wanted to do is work and all I've ever

Marley Majcher:

wanted to do is be an entrepreneur, then you're going

Marley Majcher:

to keep getting tested. And so I think an important message, no

Marley Majcher:

matter how old the person is listening to this, right? Old,

Marley Majcher:

young, whatever, is just to to let me firmly underscore it

Marley Majcher:

might look great from the outside, it is not easy, right?

Marley Majcher:

And there are a lot of tears shed, and there are a lot of, Oh

Marley Majcher:

my gosh, can I actually do this? And And to your point about

Marley Majcher:

Right. courage, sometimes you don't even actually have the

Marley Majcher:

courage. You just are like, Okay, I'm going to just put one

Marley Majcher:

foot in front of the other. I don't want to, but I've got

Marley Majcher:

What's the you know What's the alternative? And then, you know,

Marley Majcher:

you come out on the other side with with what people can't take

Marley Majcher:

away from you. And that's, of course, what's in your brain,

Laura Gisborne:

right, because you can never lose with the

Laura Gisborne:

education, right? I mean, that's something that you get to keep.

Laura Gisborne:

Whole nother whole nother conversation. But I would say

Laura Gisborne:

what I heard you say that's important, that I want to

Laura Gisborne:

reiterate for us too, is that at Limitless Women, one of our

Laura Gisborne:

company's core values is that action changes everything. It's

Laura Gisborne:

not about intention. It's not about our prayer and our

Laura Gisborne:

meditation. We really, again, where a lot of people are really

Laura Gisborne:

like spiritually connected and feeling this calling -- I love

Marley Majcher:

that. I'm very spiritually connected. And

Marley Majcher:

-- You

Laura Gisborne:

got you got to meet God. You got to get in

Laura Gisborne:

action with that's when the energy moves, right? If energy

Laura Gisborne:

can't be created or destroyed, it's only moved, choose. Choose

Laura Gisborne:

to take an action, and then there will be what's on the

Laura Gisborne:

other side. But the but the version of you -- is something

Laura Gisborne:

else that you said that I think is so powerful, and you've been

Laura Gisborne:

so successful in so many ways in your life, and I appreciate your

Laura Gisborne:

humility in sharing this -- the version of you that is having a

Laura Gisborne:

new calling, or a new identity, or a new opportunity, a new

Laura Gisborne:

level is still can be scary, because you're in the unknown

Laura Gisborne:

zone.

Marley Majcher:

Oh, I I I think, you know, you even hear people

Marley Majcher:

that that go on TV all the time, and like getting nervous in

Marley Majcher:

front of the camera is not something I I have, but but I

Marley Majcher:

know very seasoned people who do, right? And I think that's

Marley Majcher:

just part of that just means you're still in the game. What I

Marley Majcher:

do still have, though, is, you know, you take on you take on as

Marley Majcher:

an entrepreneur you you take on huge risk, right? I mean, you

Marley Majcher:

can lose everything. There That's a genuine thing, and you

Marley Majcher:

you just even if you thrive in that, even if you have a high

Marley Majcher:

risk tolerance like I do, that doesn't mean that that you're

Marley Majcher:

not still scared. Maybe not when you start the project cuz you

Marley Majcher:

might not know enough to be scared. But then when you're in

Marley Majcher:

it, you're like, Oh my lord in heaven, what

Laura Gisborne:

Exactly. You didn't know what you didn't

Laura Gisborne:

know. the fuck was I? Well, yeah. And I feel like I I for

Laura Gisborne:

some reason I feel like I'm on a need-to-know basis with God. I

Laura Gisborne:

feel like things get revealed to me as I'm ready. So my job is to

Laura Gisborne:

work on my capacity and to remember to try to stay present

Laura Gisborne:

every day, which is, again, not easy because I'm I'm highly

Laura Gisborne:

creative like you, and I get distracted, and life is lifing,

Laura Gisborne:

and kids are kidding, and, you know, things are happening,

Laura Gisborne:

right? So tell me about what happened, if you don't mind me

Laura Gisborne:

pulling you forward in this way around. It's just great to share

Laura Gisborne:

the, you know, the hospitality background. I can't wait to sit

Laura Gisborne:

down and visit with you more about that. What happened with

Laura Gisborne:

this fire season? Like tell me about what's happening. So, so

Laura Gisborne:

random.

Marley Majcher:

I mean, it is it is and it isn't. So, my mom

Marley Majcher:

passed away 5 years ago, and my mom what I my mom and I traveled

Marley Majcher:

the world together. That was another thing when my parents

Marley Majcher:

they were like, Travel, travel, travel, read, read, read, right?

Marley Majcher:

Because then you really learn. And so, after my mom passed

Marley Majcher:

away, she had been sick with cancer, and I just was like lost

Marley Majcher:

and needed to take a a break. So, I randomly I also am like a

Marley Majcher:

big visualizer and I tear magazines to this day out, and

Marley Majcher:

one of them that I had torn out was this article I mean, this

Marley Majcher:

was probably probably now it's been almost 20 years. And it was

Marley Majcher:

an article on these sheep from the Faroe Islands. Okay, now if

Marley Majcher:

you don't know where the Faroe Islands are, you're not alone.

Marley Majcher:

Nobody does. They're in between Scotland and Iceland, basically,

Marley Majcher:

like some owned by Denmark. It's not the right way to say it, but

Intro:

Right, right, right.

Marley Majcher:

And I go to the I was just sad, and I go to the

Marley Majcher:

Faroe Islands cuz I wanted to see these sheep. It was on a

Marley Majcher:

bucket list. They're supposedly the oldest sheep in the world.

Marley Majcher:

I'm like, Okay. So I go, Not a lot to do there anyway, and I'm

Marley Majcher:

wandering around, and I'm spending all this time, and then

Marley Majcher:

I'm in the sheep shearing factory, whatever it's called.

Marley Majcher:

But you know, my business brain turns on, and I'm like, this is

Marley Majcher:

an awful lot of wool. There's gotta be something going on

Marley Majcher:

here, yeah. Right, for a place that doesn't has a population of

Marley Majcher:

like 48,000 people. I'm like, what the hell? What are you guys

Marley Majcher:

going to do with this wool? Well, anyway, they were like,

Marley Majcher:

oh, well, we have this German investor who might reinvest, and

Marley Majcher:

I'm just like, you mean your your whole like GDP, obviously

Marley Majcher:

I'm exaggerating, is on this one German guy who might make

Marley Majcher:

handbags out of this because Faroese wool is nasty. And net

Marley Majcher:

net, I find out they burn it or it goes in the landfill because

Marley Majcher:

farmers make money from the lambs having the babies or the

Marley Majcher:

meat. And but you got to shear the sheep. And I was like, but

Marley Majcher:

what are you talking about? Like you can't just throw it away.

Marley Majcher:

Fast forward, I do some research. I pack all this

Marley Majcher:

Faroese wool into my suitcase, making my own version of a Space

Marley Majcher:

Bag with the housekeepers of the hotel. Bring it all home. Talk

Marley Majcher:

to my cousins who are PhDs and masters in chemistry, and I say,

Marley Majcher:

listen, what else can you do with wool? Turns out, it's

Marley Majcher:

naturally fire retardant, ironically. And we develop, and

Marley Majcher:

now we've three patent applications later, have created

Marley Majcher:

a product that is the first 100% biodegradable, made out of waste

Marley Majcher:

wool with, I'll call it, three magic powders woven into it, so

Marley Majcher:

that basically the consumer now has or will, very soon, have a

Marley Majcher:

product they can put on their roof to prevent the spread of

Marley Majcher:

wildfire. So it can be deployed from the roof. They can put it

Marley Majcher:

in like for kitchen fires, because right now there's this

Marley Majcher:

horrendous, sorry, fiberglass like blanket that you can put on

Marley Majcher:

the stove which if you don't get all the oxygen out doesn't work,

Marley Majcher:

and then you've got this fiberglass that's going to go in

Marley Majcher:

the landfill and is horrible. Ours is you take the total bio

Marley Majcher:

the size of a yoga mat, throw it over your grease fire. Guess

Marley Majcher:

what? Puts it out. You're done. You take it, put it in the

Marley Majcher:

garden, and it's like Miracle-Gro for your soil. And

Marley Majcher:

then we've developed this product that will do will, you

Marley Majcher:

know, put out EV battery fires and all this other stuff. So

Marley Majcher:

that is that company is called sayyestosheep.com, and it is all

Marley Majcher:

about using the waste wool from around the world. Because now we

Marley Majcher:

know that the average farmer has two to three years worth of

Marley Majcher:

waste wool just piling up in their barns. So we are going to

Marley Majcher:

save the farmers and our lovely Southern California houses, and

Marley Majcher:

everywhere else that's got that's got fire.

Laura Gisborne:

Yeah. This year, I mean this year France, Spain.

Laura Gisborne:

It's not I I I'm sure I'm missing, you know, I was saw

Laura Gisborne:

someone yesterday Monterey where we used to live in California.

Laura Gisborne:

It's just it's not, you know, for all the people who said

Laura Gisborne:

global warming isn't real, you know, well we are. And it's time

Laura Gisborne:

to really think, again, creatively around solutions, and

Laura Gisborne:

what can we each individually do, and part of that is how we

Laura Gisborne:

spend how we how we spend our money, right? Like it's one of

Laura Gisborne:

the things I learned working with Lynne Twist and Pachamama

Laura Gisborne:

Alliance, is like we can choose, as consumers, to make

Laura Gisborne:

investments in products and services that are aligned with

Laura Gisborne:

our values, right? And so this whole idea that it's not only an

Laura Gisborne:

opportunity to stop a fire, but then also then the product

Laura Gisborne:

doesn't cause waste, that it's biodegradable. It is literally

Laura Gisborne:

full circle

Marley Majcher:

because you have to shear the sheep, right? And

Marley Majcher:

then we take this waste wool, and instead of like, because

Marley Majcher:

everybody thinks of wool in terms of they want to make fiber

Marley Majcher:

like clothing or, well we don't need we don't need those warm

Marley Majcher:

sweaters to go skiing anymore, right? So the the demand is just

Marley Majcher:

not there. So, we taking this literally waste and then we all

Marley Majcher:

know also there's a problem with the soil, you know, and like my

Marley Majcher:

hillsides out there in California, or here in

Marley Majcher:

California, that's it's it's nasty, but this product can

Marley Majcher:

improve the soil, then that improves, then you can grow and

Marley Majcher:

then you know the heat it helps the heat sinks and all these

Marley Majcher:

other things. And it is, but talk about a random full circle,

Marley Majcher:

like how the heck am I working with sheep from But it and in

Marley Majcher:

some ways it has but you know, from right? But you know, since

Marley Majcher:

I started my career in kitchens, it's kind of ironic now that

Marley Majcher:

it's like, well, I always wanted to do a product, but I just have

Marley Majcher:

never had a product that I was like, What am I going to do,

Marley Majcher:

like, you know, pink cutlery or something? But this way now,

Marley Majcher:

They really aligned. I actually can put out the fires that I

Marley Majcher:

start, you know? Oh.

Laura Gisborne:

Yeah. So good. So, so good. I love that for

Laura Gisborne:

you. And I love that for us. And, you know, again, we're in

Laura Gisborne:

the early stages right now, but you're past ideation. You're in

Laura Gisborne:

product. You've got proof of concept. You guys are moving on.

Laura Gisborne:

You're doing your raise. You're doing the pieces to get it out

Laura Gisborne:

in the world. So, please keep us posted and let us know how we

Laura Gisborne:

can share the message and how we can buy it. Yeah. Oh, yeah.

Laura Gisborne:

Yeah, right. Yes. Yeah, well, one one thing people

Marley Majcher:

can do, too, is we we decided kind of Speaking

Marley Majcher:

of marketing directions is, you know, there's the GEICO gecko

Marley Majcher:

and there's the Aflac duck and all this stuff, and so there is

Marley Majcher:

no real fire prevention marketed to women, certainly not to kids,

Marley Majcher:

you know, maybe Smokey Bear. So, we came up with Sparkle the

Marley Majcher:

Sheep. Sparkle the Sheep is on Amazon. She's got her her first

Marley Majcher:

novella, and it's Sparkle and the Bougie Flock. And And,

Marley Majcher:

anyway, at the end of the day, Yeah. It's can look for it. And

Marley Majcher:

we're going to just raise awareness so kids are like, Hey,

Marley Majcher:

listen, Mom, what do we do? How do we? Because you know nobody

Marley Majcher:

knows how to use a fire extinguisher in their kitchen,

Marley Majcher:

you know? This product is something that that a

Marley Majcher:

four-year-old could could put a fire out and really save lives.

Laura Gisborne:

Yeah. That's true. So good. So good. Yeah, so

Laura Gisborne:

awesome. I love this. I'm excited to see where this goes.

Laura Gisborne:

And like I said, we really want to make sure we share the

Laura Gisborne:

message, so please keep us posted. What's happening with

Laura Gisborne:

The Party Goddess! these days?

Marley Majcher:

So, The Party Goddess!, you know, it's it's

Marley Majcher:

kind of cool to have something that literally, again, completes

Marley Majcher:

the circle. So, it's I'm still doing events. We are selective

Marley Majcher:

about the events that we do because, So, you know, as a

Marley Majcher:

serial entrepreneur, you know, we've got a lot going on. But

Marley Majcher:

now what we've done is we've always had our Party Goddess!

Marley Majcher:

icon, you know, the girl with the wand and the whole thing.

Marley Majcher:

And Right. now we're sort of letting Sparkle the Sheep be her

Marley Majcher:

ambassador, and we are Yeah. So, I

Laura Gisborne:

love it. There's a little partnership they're

Laura Gisborne:

like walking together. Oh, my gosh, this is

Marley Majcher:

awesome! Exactly. So, The Party Goddess!

Marley Majcher:

has got Sparkle, and you know, Sparkle just kind of now

Marley Majcher:

welcomes you at the door of all of our brands because we've got

Marley Majcher:

The Profit Goddess! to help Awesome. I like it. Yeah. you

Marley Majcher:

know, business owners make more money and actually have

Marley Majcher:

something to show for it. So, yeah, we're doing events. We're

Marley Majcher:

just doing less of them and, you know, bigger, cool ones that

Marley Majcher:

that are fun to do.

Laura Gisborne:

Well, and you just brought this up and I was

Laura Gisborne:

like, I'm sorry, I was like, okay we're going to have like a

Laura Gisborne:

20-minute call, but just something I can do that with

Laura Gisborne:

you. I just have so many things I want to ask you and I want to

Laura Gisborne:

keep you here all day and I know you have to go and I do, too.

Laura Gisborne:

But I just I really want to what you just said around the profit

Laura Gisborne:

is something else that I know is a superpower of yours that more

Laura Gisborne:

women need help with. So, will you let us know a little bit

Laura Gisborne:

about that to take us home and then let us know how we can stay

Laura Gisborne:

in touch with you, Marley, because I know that you, like

Laura Gisborne:

us, you're really again you love to give and you're

Marley Majcher:

Yes.

Laura Gisborne:

giving, giving, giving all the time with

Laura Gisborne:

resources Yes. to help women with this journey to have it not

Laura Gisborne:

be so hard and to be able, you know, our whole world is around

Laura Gisborne:

profits for purpose, but we've got to have the profits, so tell

Laura Gisborne:

us how.

Marley Majcher:

Yes, well, you got to have the profits or

Marley Majcher:

you're going to be divorced, you're going to have all kinds

Marley Majcher:

of other things. So yeah, so what I did was I wrote a

Marley Majcher:

business book to solve my own problems called But Are You

Marley Majcher:

Making Any Money? And that was after a question my dad would

Marley Majcher:

always ask me like, Oh this is great, this event. This is

Marley Majcher:

great, you know, all this noise, but but are you making any

Marley Majcher:

money? Right. Are you making any money? And so that's a giveaway

Marley Majcher:

that I want to give to your audience is that and you'll put

Marley Majcher:

the Awesome. Great. you'll put the info, but it's a free copy

Marley Majcher:

of the book. I've written now contributed to many more books,

Marley Majcher:

but this one really focuses on not just cost of goods sold,

Marley Majcher:

which we all need to know about, but to me, the differential

Marley Majcher:

advantage in this book and this process is a, it's written by

Marley Majcher:

somebody with ADHD who, you know, doesn't really want to

Marley Majcher:

focus on numbers, but we all have to. But it takes into

Marley Majcher:

consideration the time that the entrepreneur puts, the time to

Marley Majcher:

get a new client, the time it takes to service the client,

Marley Majcher:

which doesn't fit into nice and tidily into into a cost of goods

Marley Majcher:

sold category. So whether you have a a service business or a a

Marley Majcher:

business, you know, a product-based business, this is

Marley Majcher:

the place to start. And and trust me, I have learned my

Marley Majcher:

lessons about how to do business the wrong way, and this will be

Marley Majcher:

your first step in the right direction. It's an easy read,

Marley Majcher:

Awesome. and you guys get it for free, so

Laura Gisborne:

take it Thank you. I'm so excited. I'm so

Laura Gisborne:

excited to read it. I will hopefully read it before I see

Laura Gisborne:

you again. I'm just really excited to see We'll get the

Laura Gisborne:

link and get it out to everyone and let them know again where

Laura Gisborne:

they can stay in touch with you. And we look forward to seeing

Laura Gisborne:

Sparkle and all the glory Yes. and Oh, glorious, yes. coming

Laura Gisborne:

there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Glorious

Marley Majcher:

she is.

Laura Gisborne:

Yeah, well, thank you again for making time

Laura Gisborne:

today. I really appreciate you, and I'm looking forward to

Laura Gisborne:

seeing you again and getting a hug in person soon.

Marley Majcher:

Love it. Can't wait. Thanks for having me,

Marley Majcher:

Laura.

Laura Gisborne:

My pleasure, darling.
