[00:00:00] Life is a way of changing us, sometimes gradually, sometimes all at once. Through our careers, our relationships, parenthood, success, loss, and all those unexpected turns life takes. Somewhere along the way, we might find ourselves asking a question. We never expect it. Who am I now?
[00:00:20] It's an interesting question, isn't it? Because we're not the same people we were 10 or 20 years ago. We've made decisions, we've celebrated successes, we've faced disappointments and learned lessons we couldn't possibly have understood at the time. And whether we realize it or not, those experiences have shaped who we are today. And how often do we stop to reflect on what life has taught us? And what happens when we share these lessons with someone else?
[00:00:49] Welcome to Now You're Talking™. I'm Adrienne Giffen. For more than 20 years, I've worked as an executive recruiter, spending much of my career getting to know people. And one of the things I've learned, that a person's accomplishments only tell part of their story. I'm far more interested in what led them there, the expectations that influence their decisions, the challenges that change their perspective, and what they learned about themselves along the way.
[00:01:17] I'm also a mother of four daughters, part of a blended family, a grandmother, an author, and a game creator. And like everyone else, I've had experiences that have shaped me too. Through all of this, I've come to believe something very strongly. Experience is expertise.
[00:01:33] Some of the most valuable things we know don't come from what we've studied. They come from what we've lived, from the choices we've made, the relationships we've built, the challenges we've faced, and sometimes the things that didn't turn out the way we'd hoped. And when we take the time to reflect on those experiences, we begin to recognize just how much life has taught us. That's what the new chapter of Now Youre Talking is all about.
[00:01:59] I'll be sitting down with business leaders, entrepreneurs, parents, authors, and people from all different walks of life who have meaningful experiences and perspectives to share. We'll explore the experiences that have shaped who they are, what they understand now that they couldn't before, and what life has taught them that someone else might need to hear.
[00:02:23] Because I don't believe we have to experience everything ourselves to learn from it. We can learn from one another. Sometimes hearing someone else's experience helps us see something in our own lives a little differently. Perhaps you're a parent trying to understand your child as they grow and change. Maybe you're leading a business or a team and facing decisions you've never had to make before. Or perhaps life has taken an unexpected turn and you're trying to find your way through something new.
[00:02:54] Sometimes all it takes is hearing how someone else navigated a similar experience to give us a different perspective. And sometimes it's hearing from someone whose life is completely different from our own that teaches us the most. I've always believed that meaningful conversation has the power to connect us. When we listen with curiosity, we begin to understand one another differently.
[00:03:19] We discover things we have in common, things we might never have considered, and sometimes even something about ourselves. And that's what makes sharing our experiences so valuable. Because the value of our stories isn't only in what happened. It's in what we learn from it and how those lessons can help light the way for someone else. And that's really my hope for this podcast. That something you hear stays with you.
[00:03:48] That it gives you a new perspective, helps you see something differently, or offers a lesson you can carry into your own life. And perhaps it sparks a conversation of your own around the dinner table, with a friend, with your children, or with someone you work with. Because the conversation doesn't have to end when the episode does. Some of the most meaningful conversations begin afterward. So whether you're joining me for the first time, or you've been listening for a while,
[00:04:17] welcome to this new chapter of Now You're Talking. Stories that help light the way. I'm Adrienne Giffen. Let the conversations begin. Let's see you again.
