Sovereign Beauty and the Wisdom We Carry Forward

Sovereign Beauty and the Wisdom We Carry Forward

What if beauty were less about following a standard and more about discovering what is truly your own?

Christine shares the deeper vision behind Goddess Beauty Mysteries, tracing the path from her roots in toxics activism and natural salons to her work with herbal hair coloring, ancestral beauty traditions, and cultural sustainability.

At the heart of the episode is her definition of sovereign beauty: beauty shaped by your own preferences, your own expression, and the things that genuinely bring you joy, rather than by trends or outside expectations.

But Christine’s vision reaches beyond individual beauty. She invites listeners to bring forward the traditions held within their families, cultures, and communities so that ancestral wisdom can be remembered, shared, and preserved.

This episode is an invitation to recognize that the knowledge of those who came before us does not need to be erased in the name of progress. We can build upon it, carry it forward, and continue discovering what it may still offer us today.

Mysteries to Uncover:

  • A different way to understand sovereign beauty as personal expression rather than conformity to an outside standard.
  • What ancestral beauty traditions from your own family, culture, or community may still be waiting to be remembered.
  • How cultural remembering can help preserve traditional knowledge before it is lost or forgotten.
  • Why sustainable beauty can include not only ecological choices, but the continuation of cultural wisdom and practices.
  • What becomes possible when we build on ancestral knowledge rather than assuming progress requires leaving it behind.

Christine Shahin:

Welcome to Goddess Beauty Mysteries, the podcast exploring henna, ancestral wisdom, and plant-based beauty traditions. I'm your host, Christine Shaheen, author and founder of Goddess Beauty. Together, we are bringing ancestral wisdom into the present to create a more beautiful and sustainable future. Thank you for joining me to remember the Goddess Beauty Mysteries. Hello, every beauty. Thank you for joining me again for Goddess Beauty Mysteries podcast, where we remember ancestral beauty traditions for a more sustainable future. Many of you have learned that my roots are in

Christine Shahin:

toxics activism. When my community was cited for a regional landfill and incinerator in 1990, it catapulted our community together, we won the battle. We did not win the war, and it personally pushed me into activism from local to regional to national to global activism on toxics issues. You know that I started the first or one of the first all-natural salons in New York State in 1992, and I have not looked back. I authored a niche book called Natural Hair Coloring: How to Use Henna and Other Pure Herbal Pigments for Chemical-Free Beauty, published by Story Publishing in 2016. It is a how-to

Christine Shahin:

book on teaching people exactly what herbs that they can use to make the color creations and formulations that they need to do their herbal hair coloring at home, since salons offering this service are few and far between. But there are some, and I will be bringing those to you soon in other podcasts. Today, I'm an online mentor and coach for do-it-yourself purple hair coloring, and now a podcaster on cultural ancestral sustainable beauty practices. My vision for this podcast is it's something that will bring us together so that we can together remember the sacred art of sovereign

Christine Shahin:

beauty, and sovereign beauty to me is that beauty that you are unique and you express for yourself. Some will pursue that surgically, and others will pursue that non-surgically. Some will use makeup, and some won't, and it's all about you and your personal preferences and what it is that you love and you enjoy. That is what sovereign beauty is. It is not a above, you know, where there's a trend that you need to fulfill to be happy. It is discovering yourself and finding out the things that you love and you want to achieve. It will be for exploring and sharing traditional wisdom for cultural

and educational sustainability, but it is your ancestral wisdom that I'm looking to feature. Your ancestral wisdom. What are the traditions and pieces from yourself, your culture, your family, your community that you have loved and works so well for you, because when we share those things, then we see where we align, where there are things that we all do that are similar, and where there are uniquenesses, and we could try different things. So this is the reason why it's called cultural remembering of ancestral wisdom, because it includes your ancestral wisdom, and you can share that with

me by going to Christine Shaheen.com. I'm really excited to take this podcast to the next level of interviewing my cohorts, and some of the interviews that I'm super excited to bring to you. Soon, are traditional Levantine soap making, cultural foods for health and beauty, the first cosmetics, ancestral topical foods for health and beauty. So it's where you take foods and use them topically, and the gifts that those bring as well. Toxics to avoid in your products if you like to purchase your products, and cutting edge uses for ancestral plants. I so appreciate you being with me on this

journey to collect the matter of knowledge before it disperses away, and we become just thinking that we're the smartest things on the planet. That we've never been as smart as we are today, because of course we know that our ancestors gave us so many beautiful wisdom traditions, and we don't need to erase them. We just want to build on them. And so, thank you for joining me on this journey. I'm excited that you're here, and if you would like to know how to join our private community, please contact me again through the website christineshaheen.com.
