When injury, disability, or difficult life experiences change what feels possible, the world can begin to feel smaller. Activities once enjoyed may become harder to access, and connecting with others may require more energy, courage, or support than people realize.
Sandra Lee welcomes Kurt Roskopf, a disability ally, adaptive recreation advocate, and ambassador for Project Diehard, an organization dedicated to supporting veterans and addressing veteran suicide.
Drawing from decades of involvement in adaptive water skiing and community service, Kurt shares how his understanding of inclusion has evolved—and why meaningful participation matters for everyone, whether or not they identify as having a disability.
Together, Sandra and Kurt explore the importance of recognizing unmet needs, moving beyond assumptions, and creating opportunities for connection that honour each person's interests and abilities.
Kurt also introduces the Shakedown, a welcoming daily movement experience built around music, activity, and community.
As you listen, consider: Where might one small invitation, a little more movement, or a new connection help you engage more fully with the life around you?
What You Are Invited to Discover:
- The unexpected ways connecting with people of different abilities may enrich everyone's experience of life.
- Why a welcoming invitation can mean more than simply making an activity accessible.
- The relationship between isolation, participation, and the possibilities that may emerge when we reconnect with community.
- A surprisingly simple approach to bringing movement and connection into everyday life, regardless of your starting point.
- The role that self-awareness, mutual respect, and shared interests may play in creating communities where more people feel they belong.
